Two Are Better Than One

HEBREWS 6:1-2 – FOUNDATION – theMEli-os – Strong #2310 – 16x

One. Luke 6:39-49. FOUNDATION FOR A LIFE: JESUS’ WORDS. “He is like a man building a house, who dug and went deep, and laid a foundationupon the rock: and when a flood arose, the river broke against that :house, and could not shake it: because it had been well built. 49 But who heard, and did not, is like a man that built a house upon the earth without a foundation; against which the river broke, and straightway it fell in; and the ruin of that house was great” (6:48-49). Obedience, not words – the key! It is above sacrifice, and grounds our life. Disobedience = Collapse!

Two. 1 PET 5:6-11. FOUNDATION IS ESTABLISHED BY SUFFERING. “And the God of all grace, who called you unto his eternal :glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little, shall himself perfect, establish, strengthen you” (5:10). Suffering is appointed for all in this world. It comes from the adversary, but perfects character, and leads to final glorification.

Three. ROM 15:14-21. FOUNDATION OF THE CHURCH-BUILDER. “Yes, making it my aim so to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, that I build not upon another’s foundation” (15:20). Paul ministered through the Holy Spirit, and led the nations to obedience. He acknowledged the labors of others, but desired to reach beyond them.

Four. 1 COR 3:10-15. FOUNDATION LAID BY PAUL. “According to the grace of :God :given me, as a wise masterbuilder I laid a foundation; and another builds thereon. But let each look how he builds thereon. 11For other foundation can no one lay than what is laid, who is Jesus Christ. 12But if any builds on the foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble" – (3:10-12). Jesus Christ is the foundation. Wood, hay and stubble is rejected while gold, silver and precious stones are accepted. Christ in the heart is the key.

Five. EPH 2:11-22. FOUNDATION OF THE CHURCH. “Being build upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being chief corner stone” (2:20). Jesus Christ is the chief cornerstone, while apostles and prophets are foundation stones. Christians are living stones built on this foundation.

Six. COL 1:3-23. FOUNDATION: COMES FROM PERSEVERANCE. “If so thatyou continue in the faith, grounded and stedfast, and not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard :preached in all creation :under the heaven; whereofI Paul became minister” (1:23). Perseverance is not only good for the present life, but also for the life to come. It is based on continuance in the faith and on stedfastness.

Seven. 2 TIM 2:14-26. FOUNDATION OF ASSURANCE AND HOLINESS. “Howbeit :God’s firm foundation stands, having this :seal. The Lord knows them that are his: and, Let every one naming the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness” (2:19). God’s foundation is in accord with the Word, and rejects error. It is in full assurance and according to holiness.
